PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct luminance distribution of image data of a document to a predetermined level. PSOLUTION: An image data correcting apparatus includes an image dividing section 18 which divides image data of a read document 1 into rectangular image blocks constituted of a plurality of pixels and produces block image data defining its maximum luminance as luminance of central coordinates; and a luminance correcting section 20 which uses the block image data to correct the image data according to a computation method based on a distance ratio. Thus, pixels of an image block having no shadow are not almost corrected. On the other hand, a portion that becomes dark is affected by luminance of image blocks around it and is corrected into luminance close to a base color of a document with no shadow. Therefore, the distribution of luminance of read image data can be corrected to a predetermined level, regardless of a reading state of a CCD sensor 11. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
