PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an individual identifying device capable of obtaining a fingerprint image stably without affected by a surface condition of a fingerprint, and improving performance of individual recognition. SOLUTION: This individual identifying device is provided with a subject holding part 2 capable of holding the subject 1 having the fingerprint 11 with a surface of the fingerprint 11 in a non-contact state, a light source 3 for irradiating light, transmittable through the subject 1, to the subject 1 held on the subject holding part 2 with the surface of the fingerprint 11 in the non-contact state, an imaging means 4 for obtaining the fingerprint image corresponding to the fingerprint 11 by imaging the light from the light source 3 passing through the fingerprint 11 of the subject 1, and a signal processing part 5 for obtaining fingerprint information by image processing of the fingerprint image outputted from the imaging means 4, and identifying an individual on the basis of the fingerprint information.
