PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous boehmite molding having low specific gravity, and good strength and used for a variety of usages, and a porous alumina molding manufactured by firing the boehmite molding.;SOLUTION: The porous boehmite molding is manufactured by the hydrothermal processing at 140°C to less than 350°C of a mixture consisting of aluminium hydroxide, a reaction accelerator and water. In the porous boehmite molding, plate boehmite crystals or needle boehmite crystals form connected crystal structures, which communicate each other to form continuous pores. The porous boehmite molding may have porosity of 65% or more and bending strength (JIS R 1601) of 400 N/cm² or more, or specific gravity of 1 or less and bending strength (JISR 1601) of 400 N/cm² or more.
