PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement difference management of files irrespective of changes of filenames. PSOLUTION: A file management apparatus comprises a storage device 13 for storing a difference detection information table 22, a difference information detection module 103, and a difference information management module 102. The difference information detection module 103 compares file information 201 about a difference-managed file with first difference detection information 220 associated with the same group that the difference-managed file belongs to, to detect differences of the difference-managed file from the preceding difference-detected file used in the detection of the first difference detection information 220. If any differences are detected, the difference information management module 102 records the file information 201 as second, new difference detection information 220 in association with the group in the difference detection information table 22.
