PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the dispersion profile of a fiber which compresses optical pulses, and to generate high-quality compressed pulses.;SOLUTION: The optical pulse generation device 100 is composed of a beat light generating unit 1 generating beat light and an optical pulse compressing device 2, where the optical pulse compressing device 2 is composed of a converting unit 3 and a compressing unit 4. The conversion unit 3 is composed of a DDF (dispersion reduced fiber) in which an abnormal dispersion value decreases in the longitudinal direction from the input end to the output end and beat light inputted from the beat light generating unit 1 is converted into up-chirp pulses. The compressing unit 4 is composed of a DDF, in which the abnormal dispersion value reduces proportionally to the position in the longitudinal direction, and time width of the up-chirp pulses inputted from the converting unit 3 is compressed to output an optical pulse train.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
