PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate servo bands from each other by univocally discriminating them on a tape. ;SOLUTION: On a linear data storing tape 82, plural servo bands 101-104 having longitudinal patterns 108 similar in magnetic transfer to each other are written in the longitudinal direction of this tape 82. Here, to separate the servo bands 101-104 from each other, one pattern 108 is provided with a predetermined tilt to each of the other patterns 108 in the longitudinal direction.
