PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arrange an additional system such as a cloth cutting device in the rear of a needle bar from an operator's side in a needle oscillating device for a sewing machine. ;SOLUTION: This needle oscillating device comprises a needle bar 3 supported vertically movably and laterally swingably to a head frame mounted on and opposed above a sewing machine bed, a driving means 18 interlocking with a sewing machine driving shaft 11 and supported swingably and rotatably round a predetermined fixed shaft 19 line, a swinging member 23 interlocking with the driving means 18, being swingable in the to-and-fro direction and disposed along the to-and-fro direction, and a converting system for converting the to- and-fro swing into the lateral swing of the needle bar 3. In this case, the swinging member 23 is arranged by being offset laterally toward the needle bar 3. Further, a supporting member 25 for supporting the needle bar 3 vertically movably is fixed to a vertical shaft 26, the axis of which is substantially vertical and which interlocks with the swinging member and is vertically movable.
