PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely automatic select a required target edge, in an edge selecting method in an image measuring machine and a recording medium recording an edge selecting method program in the image measuring machine recorded therein. SOLUTION: This method is characteristed by detecting the edge based on a contrast value obtained on a prescribed line, and, selecting the target edge based on the distance from a prescribed point on the line to the edge.
