PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunable dispersion compensating unit which has a simple control system for dispersion compensation, and moreover which will not cause the center period of chirped optical fiber grating which is bent to change.;SOLUTION: The tunable dispersion compensator for optical communications system is provided with optical fibers having the chirped optical fiber grating, first and second frames which are arranged symmetric to each other and have level difference parts, a first metal plate which has a predetermined length for attaching the optical fibers, a second metal plate fitted to the level difference parts of the first and second frames, and a bending means which makes the first and second frames and the second metal plate and connected and makes the chirped optical fiber grating bend symmetrically.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
