PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the length of a thread end coming out of the reverse side of a cloth, by making the thread end shorter after being cut before restarting sewing.;SOLUTION: In this method, upon ending the sewing operation, a thread clamping mechanism 10 holds a top thread T during the elevation of a balance 5. As the balance 5 is elevated, the top thread T is pulled out of a bobbin through a thread tension device 12, when a thread take-up spring 13 is deformed by the tension force that acts on the top thread T. In this state, a thread cutter 18 cuts the top thread T and a main shaft 2 is stopped. While the main shaft 2 is stopped, the thread clamping mechanism 10 releases the top thread T, and then after the thread take-up spring 13 pulls up the thread end due to its own stability strength, the thread clamping mechanism 10 holds the top thread T. Upon restarting the sewing, the main shaft 2 is restarted, drawing the end thread end Te into the place under a slide plate 6 in cooperation with a needle 4 putting the first stitch and a hook 7.
