PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retaining device for a main rope of an elevator for reducing change in the tensile angle of the main rope occurring in a retaining body position of the main rope with the elevating position of an elevating body.;SOLUTION: The retaining body 11 is provided at a fixing part 2 of a hoistway 1, and the main rope 9 is arranged at a position distant from just above the winding center of the main rope 9 in a sheave groove of a wound pulley 7. A retaining plate 12 of the retaining body 11 is provided at a position crossing an inclination angle against a vertical line of the main rope 9 while the retaining body 6 is in an intermediate position of an elevating stroke. A retaining member 10 is inserted into the retaining plate 12 and is latched to the fixing part 2. Thus, a change in the tension angle of the main rope 9 against the retaining plate 12 with a change in the elevating position of the elevating body 6 is decreased, a bending load acting upon an end of the main rope 9 and the retaining member 10 is decreased, durability of the main rope 9 and the retaining member 10 is improved, and the maintenance cost is reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
