PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide particles which, when used together with a transition metal compound, give an olefin polymerization catalyst which, when used in a polymerization (e.g. slurry polymerization or gas-phase polymerization) accompanied by the formation of polymer particles, exhibits a high activity, is excellent in shape and particulate properties, and gives a polymer having a narrow mol.wt. distribution; a carrier comprising the same, an olefin polymerization catalyst component comprising the same; an olefin polymerization catalyst prepared by using the same; and a production method for an olefin polymer using the catalyst. ;SOLUTION: There are provided modified particles prepared by contacting (a) particles with (b) a group 7 metal compound and then with (c) a compound having an active-hydrogen- containing functional group or a non-proton-donating Lewis base functional group and an electron-attracting group; a carrier comprising the modified particles; an olefin polymerization catalyst component comprising the modified particles; an olefin polymerization catalyst prepared by using (A) the modified particles, (B) a transition metal compound, and (C) an organometallic compound; and a production method for an olefin polymer using the catalyst.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
