PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a protective layer, especially LUL resistance characteristics even when the film thickness of the protective layer is set equal to/less than 5 nm in a magnetic disk having a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic substrate and a protective layer on the magnetic layer.;SOLUTION: A protective layer is formed by a plasma CVD method using carbon as a main component. In this protective layer, when a D peak appearing near 1350 cm-1 and a G peak appearing near 1520 cm-1 are waveform-separated from each other by a gauss function in a spectrum removing a fluorescent light from Raman spectrum at a frequency 900-1 to a frequency 1800 cm-1 obtained based on exciting by the argon ion laser beam of a wavelength 514.5 nm, a ratio Dw/Gw between the half value width Dw of the D peak and the half value width Gw of the G peak exceeds 0, but equal to or less than 2.7.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
