PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aberration correcting element with which a stable servo characteristic can be obtained even when the thickness of it is reduced. PSOLUTION: This aberration correcting element is a liquid crystal element which is used in an optical pickup device which is equipped with an objective lens which condenses the outgoing light from a semiconductor laser to an optical disk, a liquid crystal element which corrects aberration by controlling at least the phase of the outgoing light, a movable part which holds the objective lens and the liquid crystal element and a driving part which drives the movable part and in the liquid crystal element, when the natural frequency of the liquid crystal element and the natural frequency of the movable part are defined respectively as f1, f2, outside dimensions of substrates with which the liquid crystal element is equipped are set so that frequencies become f1f2.
