PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and efficiently narrow a candidate pattern in the case of recognizing a pattern such as a handwritten character.;SOLUTION: A preprocessing part 12 preprocesses picture data inputted by an image input part 11, a feature extraction part 13 extracts a feature and a candidate selection part 16 selects a candidate category by using a Euclidian distance.
