PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a measuring resolution for a game machine ball. ;SOLUTION: This apparatus has a gauge base 1 for measurement, a photo-electric device 2 which is fixed on a predetermined position of a playing part 1a and detects passage of a projected game ball P, a CCD camera 3 which takes the image of the game ball P in the playing part 1a, and an image processing device 10 which controls the CCD camera 3 to take the image of the ball, when the photo-electric device 2 detects passage of the game ball P, and determined the position of the game ball P by carrying out image- processing on the image of the game ball P taken by the CCD camera 3. The image processing device 10 determines the position of the game ball P by carrying out a patternmatching process which is already well-known. Because the resolution of the image processing is far smaller than the diameter of the game ball P, the measuring resolution of the game ball P can be improved in comparison with conventional method.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
