DIAGNOSTIC METHOD OF THE PRESENCE OF AN EXHAUST TREATMENT COMPONENT AND A USE OF THE VEHICLE VESSEL DIAGNOSTIC METHOD. The present invention relates to a method for diagnosing the presence of an internal combustion engine exhaust aftertreatment component (12) on a vehicle. In accordance with the present invention, said method is characterized in that the exhaust temperature is measured downstream of the exhaust aftertreatment component (12) continuously over a period of time to provide a first temperature signal. with floating amplitude; that the temperature signal is modified to provide a second modified temperature signal; and that the first temperature signal and the second temperature signal are compared for detecting any significant difference between said signals.
