Described 5-fluoro-3.alfa., 17.beta.-dihydroxy-5.alfa.-androstan-6-one IV. It also describes the synthesis of 5-fluoro-3.alfa., 17.beta.-dihydroxy-5.alfa.-androstan-6-one of formula IV, which consists in the partial hydrolysis of 5-fluoro-6-oxo-5.alfa. androstane-3.beta., 17.beta.-diyl acetate mild alkaline reagent to 5-fluoro-3.beta.-hydroxy-6-oxo-5.alfa.-androstane-17.beta.-yl acetate, which solvolytic by changing the configuration in position 3 gave 5-fluoro-3.alfa.-hydroxy-6-oxo-5.alfa.-androstane-17.beta.-yl acetate and the hydrolytic by removal hindering group gives the desired 5-fluoro-third alpha., 17.beta.-dihydroxy-5.alfa.-androstan-6-one IV. The invention further relates to the use of 5-fluoro-3.alfa., 17.beta.-dihydroxy-5.alfa.-androstan-6-one of formula IV in regulating plant growth and for increasing the yield of plants and for the removal of stress actions at the plant.
