In the present invention, there is disclosed a mixture for producing cores and chill molds containing a molding sand, resin and hollow microspheres of aluminum silicate. The mixture comprises between 1 and 30 percent by weight of hollow microspheres of aluminum silicate, based on the sand total weight whereby the hollow microspheres of aluminum silicate have aluminum content between 20 and 35 percent by weight. Disclosed is also the use of such mixture, process for producing a core or a chill mold by means of cold process and a core of a chill mold for casting metals
