The flat metal element has a center area (28) comprising at least two sections (29,30) each consisting of two outer lying sub-sections (31,33,34,36) with a center sub-section (32,35) in between. The outer sub-sections are folded over in relation to the center sub-section to create an opening (22,23). The two sections of the center area form a part of the edge of the opening. The center area, inclusive of the two sections, is formed in one piece with edge areas (26,27) of the metal element. An independent claim is included for a use for the metal element which, among other things, may be for a profiled element, especially as a corner or support section, protective screen, fence section, filter mat or noise protection element.
