REGENERATION OF ELITE INDIAN COTTON CULTIVAR VIA SAMATIC EMBRYOGENESIS

The present invention provides a method for regenerating cotton plants of elite Indian cultivar from hypocotyls explants. The improved method allows formation of callus from hypocotyl explants on medium containing IBA and Kinetin as growth regulators. Embryogenesis is induced on a basal medium without growth regulators. Embryo development is achieved on MS medium without NFL4NO3 but double the amount of KNOs. Embryo maturation is achieved on a medium containing extra amounts of L-glutamine and L-asparagine. Plantlets are recovered after germination of somatic embryos.
