A novel mesoporous solid super acid catalyst was synthesized by grinding tungstic acid with initially supported hexagonal mesoporous silica with zirconium hydroxide. This work shows a novel approach to incorporate superacidic centers, W03-Zr02 on highly ordered hexagonal mesoporous silica (HMS). The resulting material is well characterized with different analytical techniques such as XRD, FTIR spectroscopy, BET surface area and pore size analysis, SEM and EDXS. The catalyst so obtained has been tested for many industrial reactions like alkylation, esterification etc. The catalyst exhibits good activity, selectivity and reusability.
