The present invention proposes Web Services Veri-Cert protocol for certificate verification. According to the present invention the Web Services eventing protocol implemented in the Certificate Authority makes sure that updations to CRL's are notified to all subscribed responders. Also validation requestors may subscribe for periodic notifications regarding the status of their certificates. This increases the reliability of validation response from the responder compared to the traditional models. Further the protocol according to the present invention supports varying levels of service for the requestor. Hence requestors can query the responder based on the security level for their transaction.
