A METHOD TO EXTEND DVD - VR STANDARD FOR MASS STORAGE DEVICES

The present invention proposes a method to virtualize Digital Versatile Disc - Video Recording (DVD –VR) standard to make it adoptable to CE products with mass storage device(s). Accordingly, the present invention proposes a method for using DVD –VR standard for recording in mass-storage media by adding a controller module which acts as a translation layer between the DVD – VR standard implementation and the added functionalities of mass-storage recording. The method uses multiple meta-data (.IFO) and media (.VRO) files, each adhering to the DVD –VR standard to overcome the limitations imposed by the standard. Further, the invention proposes a mechanism for controlling and maintaining these multiple files so that the presence of multiple files is transparent to the application.
