Disclosed is the use of different lignocellulosic materials resulting from different industries and agricultural activities, which may be transformed into ethanol and xylitol by means of a process more rentable than those biotechnological processes currently available on the market, since it uses microorganism tolerant to toxic compounds derived from the hydrolysis thereof, therefore a detoxification process is not required. It is worthy to mention that the process is performed by means of sequenced fermentations, which avoid metabolic diversions caused by the simultaneous fermentation of glucose and xylose, as well as the use of sugar separation processes since in the first fermentation only glucose is spent and the medium enriched with xylose, while in the second fermentation only xylose is consumed.
