A discharge device (13) removes biogas generated inside the composting space (10) and then returns it to a point elsewhere in this space, in order to improve separation of the manure into solid and liquid fractions. An apparatus (1) for processing manure having solid and liquid fractions comprises: a composting space with an inlet side (10a) and outlet side (10b); a filter (12) for removing the liquid fraction from the solid fraction; a feed (11, 11a) for supplying manure to the inlet side and removing the solid fraction from the outlet side of this space; and a discharge device for removing biogas generated inside this space and returning it to a point elsewhere in this space. An independent claim is also included for a processing method for manure having liquid and solid fractions, comprising the steps of supplying manure to a composting space, separating the liquid and solid fractions from each other, discharging the liquid fraction, fermenting the solid fraction, composting the solid fraction, and sanitizing the composted solid fraction.
