The device has a processor with software for protocol translation, data filtering, encryption, authentication and data communication between ports e.g. RS232or Universal Serial Bus (USB). The processor receives direct current (DC) power through a connector e.g. Ethernet, Universal Serial Bus (USB)or Personal System/2 (PS/2). The processor performs management functions such as built-in web server and serial telephone network server, for network connections. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a communication method (2) a system for remotely managing devices over Internet.
