The device has a weighing unit (9) provided with two weight sensors (10-1-10-4) for issuing a weight signal. A filter filters the weight signal to a signal that is an indication of a position of an axis of a dairy animal. A driving mechanism (11) controls automatic milking based on the filtered weight signal. The driving mechanism is controlled after completion of the milking based on an unfiltered weight signal, where the filter is switchable between a filter position and a position of passing the unfiltered weight signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for driving an automatic milking device.
