The method involves sending a digital image file from a client computer (2) to a host computer (4). The image file is processed by the host computer by utilizing editing software, and the processed image file is returned to the client computer. Network processing of the image file is performed such that marked facial characteristics coincide with predetermined image positions with the client computer. Data representing the marked facial characteristics is sent to the host computer from the client computer. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for editing a photographic facial image (2) a software comprising a set of instructions for editing a photographic facial image.
