Portfolio selection for (healthcare) technology investment

A computer-implemented method for creating an investment vehicle is disclosed. The method comprises selecting companies from a single sector of economic activity to form a subgroup, the subgroup having fewer companies than the sector, the selecting being based on involvement of each of the companies with development or marketing of at least one product associated with a product application that is predefined for the investment vehicle and that involves ongoing technological development. The method further comprises selecting companies from the subgroup for inclusion in the investment vehicle, the selecting from the subgroup may be based on criteria including at least one of: (a) a level of capitalization of each company, (b) a stage of economic development of the at least one product of each company, and (c) a financial condition of each company. The investment vehicle is formed from the companies selected from the subgroup and the investment vehicle is made available to a trading system. In one embodiment the investment vehicle is associated with a specific disease or diseases and the product application is at least one of (i) treatment of the specific disease or diseases, (ii) diagnosis of the specific disease or diseases, and (iii) treatment of symptoms of the specific disease or diseases.
