The element (8) has a bag-type filter sock (17) comprising an air-permeable, flexible material to separate particles from an air stream. An inner diameter or periphery of the sock is 20-40 percent greater than greatest outer diameter or periphery of a support body (21) so that the sock is dimensioned in relation to the body such that the sock loosely surrounds the body in an inactive state of the element without air flow. Fold- or wave formation is enabled in a casing section of the sock and a sheathing of the body lies through the sock when air flows against an outer surface of the sock.
