The bed (1) has an egg-shaped shell (2) defining a sleeping area (4) that is hermetically closed off from the surrounding. A resting zone (3) is arranged in the area that is accessible by a hermetically sealable door. The area is supplied with air by a controllable ventilation and deaeration device that is designed as a temperature-control device and/or air-humidity regulator. An electric smog and/or magnetic field shield (6) and sound-insulating material (7) are provided in the shell. Lighting elements (10) e.g. light scattering elements or LEDs, are provided at an inner side of the shell.
