A needle assembly comprising: a housing (12) having one end (14) fluid inlet and one end (16) output opposite fluid communication therebetween, said housing being defined by a cylindrical outer wall delineating a chamber (22) display or "flashback" for retention of said sample therein and includes means (100) to visualize the presence of a fluid in said chamber; a first cannula (36) in fluid communication with said end (14) of fluid inlet and extending outwardly therefrom, having said first cannula having a first inner end (44) with an opening (46) located proximate said chamber (22) and a first outer end (40) opposite thereto; a second cannula (52) in fluid communication with said outlet end of fluid and extending outwardly therefrom, the said second cannula having a second interior extremity (54) with an opening (56) located proximate said first interior extremity (44), and a second outer end (58) opposite to said second interior extremity (54); wherein said first and second (36, 52) cannulae are in axial alignment with each other to provide an axial flow path of fluid between them along the length of said housing (12), characterized that said chamber (22) display or "flashback" is an annular chamber around the second cannula (52) said second cannula (52) axially extending through said chamber (22) into said end ( 14) housing inlet (12) and one end (14) inlet comprising an annular (26) around the second lower end (54) duct, said duct being in communication annular chamber display or "flashback" (22).
