An apparatus (10) for classifying poultry eggs, comprising: a conveyor (12) eggs, configured to carry at least two rows of eggs in side-by-side relationship with each other; a plurality of measuring systems light, each having a source (17) of light positioned on one side of said conveyor (12) eggs and a detector (27) of light positioned on the other side of said conveyor (12) eggs since opposite said source (17) of light, such systems (17, 27) for measuring light in operative association with each of said rows of eggs being placed; further comprising a circuit (30) switching operatively associated with said sources (18) of light adapted to cycle the intensity of said sources (17) of light at a frequency greater than 100 cycles per second, said circuit being further adapted ( 30) switching to cycle adjacent ones of said sources (17) of light in a time frequency distinct from the others.
