A percutaneous release mechanism for use with anintravascular treatment device in an intravasculartreatment system. The release mechanism includes aninner member having a connection mechanism positionedabout the distal end thereof for interconnection withanother connection mechanism positioned on anintravascular treatment device. The release mechanismalso includes an outer member tube of which the innermember is positioned therein. The first and secondconnection mechanisms are interconnectable andpositionable in the passage of the tube for deliveringthe treatment device in a delivery state to the treatmentsite. The release mechanism also includes a handle havingparts connected to the inner member and outer tube,whereby movement of the proximal end of the inner memberis translated to the distal end thereof for extending theinterconnected connection mechanisms from the passage ofthe outer member tube and positioning the treatmentdevice in a treatment state. The intravascular treatmentsystem includes the percutaneous release mechanism alongwith the intravascular treatment device. The treatmentdevice includes an occlusion coil and a rigid tubeconnected to the flexible outer member tube formaintaining the delivery coil in a delivery state. Inanother example, the treatment device includes a bloodclot filter in which the percutaneous delivery mechanismis adapted for connection thereto.
