Compositions, methods and kits forinhibit-ing a cerebral neurovascular disorder or amus-cular headache in a human patient are disclosed.Also disclosed are uses of a long-acting localanesthetic ingredient for manufacturing amedica-ment comprising the long-acting local anestheticingredient for use in inhibiting a cerebralneu-rovascular disorder in a human patient. Themeth-ods comprise intranasally administering to thepa-tient a pharmaceutical composition comprising alocal anesthetic, and preferably a long-actinglo-cal anesthetic ingredient. A compositionuse-ful for practicing the methods of the inventionis described which comprises at least one localanesthetic in a pharmaceutically acceptablecar-rier, wherein the composition is formulated forintranasal delivery. Cerebral neurovasculardisor-ders include migraine and cluster headache.Mus-cular headaches include tension headaches andmuscle contraction headaches. A kit comprisingthe composition and an intranasal applicator anda method of systemically delivering apharmaceu-tically active agent to an animal are also includedin the invention.
