The invention relates to a batch, in particular for theproduction of a refractory shaped body, comprising atleast one refractory metal oxide component and asynthetic resin component as binder, and a graphitizingauxiliary for producing crystalline graphite carbonfrom the resin, the graphitizing auxiliary originatingfrom the group consisting of the reducible organiccompounds of the transition elements and/or the groupof the active organic or inorganic metal compounds ormetals, such as resin-soluble metal salts, chemicallyprecipitated or micronized metal oxides or metals, thegraphitizing auxiliary being available in molecularform over the time and/or temperature range ofconversion of the synthetic resin into carbon(carbonization).
