Process for producing a plant (A), transformed with respect to the phenotype of storage organ size, comprises modifying expression of the gene (I) that encodes a potassium channel (KC) in the cells of the storage organ or of the tissue that feeds it. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) transformed cell or plant produced by the new method; (2) marker (M) of a gene involved in the phenotype of storage organ size; (3) nucleotide primer (NP) for selecting plants or cells that overexpress (M); (4) method for selecting plants according to storage organ size by measuring expression of a KC gene in the organ (or its feeder tissue); (5) plant cell, or plant, that overexpresses an (M); (6) antibody (Ab) directed against (part of) the polypeptide (X) encoded by a KC gene; (7) method for detecting (part of ) (X); and (8) kit, for detecting (part of) (X), that contains an Ab.
