METHOD FOR LOCALIZING NOISE SOURCES OF A VEHICLE MOVING AT A DISTANCE

The invention relates to a method for localizing noise sources of a vehicle (1) which moves at a great distance. Said method comprises the following steps: - providing an array (2) of acoustic sensors; - providing acoustic transmitters (4, 5, 6) on the vehicle (1) for producing an orthogonal reference signal (7); - synchronizing the acoustic transmitters (4, 5, 6) and the acoustic sensors (3) with an absolute reference time; - correlating the received signals with the reference signals (7); - determining the absolute acoustic position of the noise sources and the relative orientation of the noise sources by triangulation. The method according to the invention allows the drawbacks of known solutions to be avoided and provides an improved solution for localizing noise sources of a vehicle that moves at a great distance. The invention also provides a simple and cost-effective solution which eliminates the need for external measuring stations such as for example radar stations.
