This invention relates to a system (10) and method for screening a potential entrant to a venue. The system (10) includes a database means (12), a card (14) and a device (16). The database means (12) is adapted to store information including any restrictions or bars imposed on the potential entrant. The card (14) has identification information relating to the potential entrant. The device (16) is adapted to scan the card (14) and to transmit some or all of the identification information to the database means (12). The database means (12) is adapted to retrieve and transmit at least part of the stored information relating to the potential entrant to the device (16).
