The invention relates to a reel (1) for a tape (10, 13) that can be spirally wound and unwound, comprising a drivable reel body (2, 2a) with a central hub (3) and a rotationally symmetrical outer casing (4), in addition to two side discs (5, 5a, 6, 40) mounted on the end faces of the reel body (2, 2a) and oriented radially outwards, the radius of each disc being greater than the radius of the outer casing (4). A tape (10, 13), which is at least flat when wound, is guided between inner axial walls (8, 9) of the side discs (5, 5a, 6, 40) parallel to the outer casing (4) of the reel body (2, 2a), the outer edges (11, 12) of said tape running parallel to the walls (8, 9) of the side discs (5, 5a, 6, 40). The outer edges (11, 12) of the tape (10, 13), when the latter has been wound, make frictional contact with the inner axial walls (8, 9) of the side discs (5, 5a, 6, 40). To improve the frictional contact of the tape with the side discs of the reel, according to the invention at least one side disc (5, 5a) can be axially displaced and the axial distance (dmin, dmax) between the inner axial walls (8, 9) of the side discs (5, 5a, 6, 40) can be altered.
