A thermally insulating glazing element (10) and a method for producing it are described, wherein the glazing element comprises: a glass panel arrangement having at least two glass panels (1, 2, 3) which have predetermined mutual spacings, wherein evacuable interspaces (4, 4-1, 4-2) are formed between the glass panels (1, 2, 3); a spacer device (5) which is designed to set the spacings between the glass panels; an edge sealing device (6, 600, 6-1, 6-2, 601) which is designed to seal the interspaces (4, 4-1, 4-2) between the glass panels with respect to the surroundings of the glazing element using an edge sealing material; and at least one evacuation opening which is designed to generate an internal pressure below the pressure of the surroundings and which comprises an evacuation tube (7), wherein a metal sealing element (8-1) is arranged in the evacuation tube (7) and is designed to close the evacuation tube (7) in a vacuum-tight manner.
