The invention relates to a method for documenting at least one verification performed on a document which is provided with an electronic signature, is in an analog or digital form, and has a semantic information content. The electronic signature and the semantic information content of the document are combined in a digital data structure which is subjected to a verification during which a verification protocol is drawn up and added to the digital data structure. The invention relates to a method for producing a readable analog or digital document which is protected against manipulation, is provided with at least one electronic signature, and contains readable semantic information. The invention is characterised by the following steps: reproduction data describing the semantic information according to type, arrangement and/or optical image is produced; the reproduction data is encoded in such a way as to form a layout code; the layout code is integrated into the document; the electronic signature is drawn up on the basis of at least certain parts of the semantic information and at least parts of the layout code; and the electronic signature is integrated into the document.
