A method of producing copper clad aluminum wire, especially a method of producing copper clad aluminum flat wire, comprises process steps as follows, preparing a copper clad aluminum wire by clad-welding in atmosphere of inert gas, drawing to a preset total distortion amount by series of drawing dies of a drawing machine at temperature below 240 °C, restricted diffusion annealing in an annealing furnace filled with inert gas, then heat preservation for 60-150 minutes after reaching a preset temperature, rolling at least one times in two high flat roller mill having a roller diameter matching with wire diameter to preset dimension, finish drawing by a rectangle die in a drawing machine to dimension of finished product, annealing and taking up in atmosphere of inert gas. With the method, copper material can be saved by 53-60%. The product produced by the method has stable and reliable performance, and has both advantages of copper and aluminum, and the contact area between copper and aluminum presents metallurgical bonding, thereby reducing the weight thereof.
