A method for determining a mannan-binding lectin (MBL) genotype in poultry is provided, wherein the serum level of MBL is determined. Specifically, a number of genetic markers is provided for genotyping poultry in respect of MBL. Also provided is a method for determining the susceptibility to an infectious disorder in poultry, comprising detecting the presence or absence of at least one genetic marker that is indicative of MBL level.
