A gas filled cell (54) contains medium voltage busbars (16), a three position earthing isolator (18), a vacuum switch (14), a transformer fuse short circuiting isolator (24) and a controlling mechanism (27). The two isolators (18,24) are mechanically linked (26) and the controlling mechanism (27) coordinates their movements with that of the vacuum switch (14) such that any arcs occur within the vacuum switch and not in the gas insulant.
