This invention is an apparatus, and method for the phototherapy of different skin conditions, particularly acne vulgaris, and seborrhea. The invention consists of a combined treatment with violet/blue light source (13) with a spectral emission in the range of 405 nanometor to 440 nanometer, possible additional spectral bands in the green, the red part of the spectrum, and the topical application of oxygen transporting compounds, and/or a methylene blue solution. The apparatus includes at least one narrow spectral band light source with spectral emitting concentrated in the violet/blue spectral band, and an optical system for controlling spectra, beam parameters of said light source (13), a mechanical fixture (9) for holding said light source (13) at an adjustable distance, the direction related to the skin treated area, an electronic unit (40) to control the duration, the power, and spectral bands of the emitted radiation.
