The invention describes an anilox roll (1) for transporting ink in a printing unit of a printing press, the anilox roller (1) having structures (4, 5, 6) on the lateral surface (2) thereof, which transport ink in the direction toward the stock, said structures (4, 5, 6) on the lateral surface (2) of the anilox roller (1) being implemented differently in the area of at least one frontal end (9, 10) of the anilox roller (1) than in the other areas of the roll. It is characteristic that the lateral surface (2) of the anilox roll (1) has a tri-helical engraving at least in the area (3) of the first frontal end (9) of the anilox roller (1), said tri-helical engraving having grooves (4, 14), which are inclined by an angle (W), the absolute value thereof being greater than 0°, with respect to the perpendicular (L) on the main axis of symmetry (A) of the anilox roller (1).
