A multi-function POS system and a method are provided. Besides general POS payment function, the multi-function POS system still has functions of paying charge, printing bill, selling ticket, market surveying, printing authentication data report and so on. A general POS system can only be used to pay by reading the custom bank card(2) and deducting expense from the bank card(2) account through card issuing bank(5). A multi-function POS terminal can be used to print bill, sell ticket, carry out market survey, print authentication data report and so on. A user reads a bank card(2) by the multi-function POS terminal(1), and processes corresponding operations through card acceptance bank(3), payment gateway(4) , additional service server(6) and so on, then realizes operations of printing bill, paying charge, buying varied tickets, market surveying, printing authentication data report and so on. The multi-function POS system fully utilizes source of existing POS network and provides convenient services of paying charge, printing bill, selling ticket, market surveying, printing authentication data report and so on.
