The wheel has two groups of pockets (3) for chain links (10) passing the pocket chain wheel opposite to the wheel axis at an angle. The angle with preset number of teeth of the wheel depends on a material dimension and the inner breadth of the links, while ensuring that the height of transverse bars forming the teeth of the wheel is adequately small to prevent a contact between the abaxial longitudinal legs of the links and the surface of the head of the teeth formed by the bars. The side walls of the pockets serve to restrict the movement of the links parallel to the wheel axis. An independent claim is also included for a chain drive with a pocket chain wheel.
